Frequently Asked Questions
- Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special occasion or event, such as a wedding or a vacation, due to the risk of bruising and swelling post-treatment.
- Arnica tablets can be taken 1 week prior to your treatment if you wish to help prevent and minimise bruising post-treatment.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications 5-7 days prior to treatment. (Unless medically directed to take these by your GP or specialist). Medications such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Omega 3/Fish Oil Supplements, Ibuprofen, Advil, and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising, bleeding and swelling after treatments.
- If you have a history of cold sores and are having treatment around the mouth area, we recommend taking antiviral tablets either the day prior to treatment or on the day of treatment to reduce the chances of you developing a cold sore post-treatment. (These can be purchased over the counter at a pharmacy/chemist with no script usually required).
- Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you are feeling unwell or have an active infection.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol 24 hours prior to your treatment as this increases the risk of bruising.
- Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours post-treatment.
- Avoid rubbing/touching the treated area until the morning after treatment.
- Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24 hours post-treatment unless using Oxygenetix. Oxygenetix oxygenating foundation is the only foundation safe to use directly post-treatment and is known for its ability to accelerate wound healing while also covering up the signs of treatment. (Oxygenetix is available to purchase in the clinic)
- Immediately following your treatment, swelling, tenderness, and slight redness or bruising may present. This is a normal response and will eventually subside after a few days to a couple of weeks. Bruise-eze cream can be applied to help the healing process and is available to purchase in the clinic.
- LED light therapy can be added to your treatment to accelerate your healing, minimise your downtime and enhance your results. Red LED light therapy is available in clinics and can also be added to your treatment for an additional cost.
- To help reduce swelling and bruising, you may apply ice or a cold washer to the treated area on and off for up to 48 hours following treatment.
- Avoid placing any pressure on the treated area for 8 hours post-treatment.
- Avoid taking any blood thinning medications, including aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oils, for 48 hours post-treatment. Paracetamol is recommended for any discomfort.
- Avoid skin treatments, including waxing, facials, lasers, and chemical peels, for two weeks post-treatment.
- You may feel some lumps for up to two weeks following your treatments as your body adjusts to the new volume and the product softens and starts to integrate into the tissue. You can gently massage the area if you feel any lumps or contact Aesthetics by Maddy-Jane if concerned.
- It is recommended to avoid extended exposure to sun or UV light and extreme hot or cold temperatures, including hot foods and drinks if your lips have been treated. Avoid facial laser treatment to the treated area for up to two weeks.
- The results and longevity of this treatment can be enhanced by using medical-grade skincare. For product recommendations, please contact Aesthetics by Maddy-Jane or ask while in the clinic.
- Arrive at your appointment make-up free. Avoid heavy exercise, drinking alcohol and smoking on the day of your appointment. Reschedule if you are feeling unwell.
- Ensure you have something to eat and drink prior to your appointment to decrease the chances of light-headedness and dizziness from occurring during your treatment.
You ARE NOT a candidate if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or have open sores or active irritation in the treatment area. Clients also MAY NOT be suitable for treatment if they have a history of neuromuscular diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Muscle relaxing treatments begin to work within 3-5 days reaching maximum effect after 14 days. The effect from muscle relaxing treatments lasts a few months, gradually wearing off from around 2 months onwards. It is advisable to repeat the anti-wrinkle treatments every 3 months to achieve the best results otherwise the full effects will usually wear off after 4-6 months depending on the dose used and the treatment area. The longevity of any product varies significantly between persons as a result of differences in metabolism, diet & exercise routines, general health, medications & supplements and of course, the amount of product used.
Individual needs vary, and the amount of product required for optimal results depends on factors such as volume loss and muscle strength. During the consultation prior to treatment, we'll discuss your specific requirements, and lifestyle factors will also be taken into consideration. Achieving the desired results may involve multiple treatments, ensuring a tailored approach to meet your unique expectations.
The concept behind the lip flip involves focusing on the fibres of the orbicularis oris muscle, which surrounds the lips.
By using muscle relaxing treatment to decrease the muscle's activity, we aim to induce relaxation, allowing the lip to gently flip upwards and achieve a more prominent, pouty appearance.
This brief procedure might be the right choice if:
- You desire a discreetly enhanced "pout" for your lips.
- Your upper lip tends to appear nearly invisible when you smile.
- You wish for fuller lips without seeking additional volume.
- You are looking for a temporary treatment with results lasting approximately three to four months.
Volumisers increase volume, enhancing the overall size of the lips, while a lip flip using anti-wrinkle treatments relaxes the surrounding muscles, gently rolling the lip upwards for a fuller pout. This approach offers a subtler effect compared to traditional volumisers.
Muscle relaxing side effects are generally mild and can be treated effectively with paracetamol and topical agents or just waiting for them to pass. Muscle relaxing treatments may result in a headache, some swelling and redness at the treated area, slight bruising and tenderness at the injection point, minor bleeding at the injection site and people may experience some dizziness or nausea. It is recommended to follow your aftercare instructions and if experiencing any concerns to contact Aesthetics by Maddy-Jane.
